The Exposición de Pintores Modernos [Modern Painters Exhibition] (Buenos Aires, June, 1926), took place in Amigos del Arte [Friends of the Arts], and was organized to match the lecture that Filippo Tommaso Marinetti gave there on avant-garde art. The Italian poet also lectured in the cities of La Plata, Rosario, and Córdoba that dealt with various aspects linked to Futurism: architecture, drama, music, poetry, and sports. The leader and founding father of Italian Futurism, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (1876–44), arrived in Argentina in June 1926, after visiting Brazil (Río de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Santos), where his visit had a great impact on the country’s cultural and artistic circles. The artists taking part in this show were Norah Borges, Emilio Pettoruti, A. Xul Solar, and Piero Illari, as well as architects Alberto Horacio Prebisch and Ernesto Vautier. The document is relevant, since it displays which were the referential paradigms of the artistic avant-garde in Buenos Aires, in addition to be a register of the event and the works exhibited therein. Moreover, this is the only issue of the catalogue we were able to locate. (There is no information about the existence of any other copies.)
