Orlando Pierri (1913-91) was born and died in Buenos Aires. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes and, in 1938, founded Orión, a Surrealist group. He taught easel and mural painting both in the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Buenos Aires and the Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Romualdo Brughetti (1912) was an art critic, essayist, and a poet born in La Plata. He studied law and the humanities, in addition to being an art history professor and collaborating in journals such as: El Hogar [The Home], Saber Vivir [Knowing How to Live], Correo Literario [Literary Mail], Criterio [Criteria], and La Nación. He directed the Argentinean art collection for the Peuser editorial and published the books Descontento creador [Discontent Creator], Afirmación de una conciencia argentina [In Order to Assess an Argentinean Conscience], Prometeo, El espíritu que no cesa [The Spirit that Will Not Quit], Nueva historia de la pintura y de la escultura en la Argentina [New History of Painting and Sculpture in Argentina], and Pintura italiana del siglo XX [20th Century Italian Paintings]. This exhibition of a decade of Surrealist works by one of the founding fathers of Grupo Orión was presented in Galería Rubbers, which was inaugurated by Natalio Jorge Povarché in Buenos Aires in 1957. From that year on, its activities have been managed by its founder.
