This essay refers to a number of the art projects created by Flávio de Carvalho over the course of his career that were meticulously planned and documented. The essay appeared in the catalogue for the retrospective exhibition organized by the professor and curator Walter Zanini and Rui Moreira Leite at the 17th Bienal in São Paulo. The author notes the similarities between Carvalho’s projects and other works at the event that were either of a conceptual nature or experimented with the idea of dematerialization. The event’s curatorial strategy sought to focus on the avant-garde aspect of Carvalho’s approach.
During his life, Sangirardi Jr. worked in many different fields, including advertising and radio, in addition to his professional training as a botanist and his studies of Brazilian folklore. He was also a contributor to the Revista do Salão de Maio, the magazine edited by Flávio de Carvalho.
