This article by Edgar Bayley reviews the different movements of modern poetry until it arrives at Invencionismo [Invention-ism], a movement in which words were composed in a new order quite different from logic, thus transforming them into the real experience of the poem itself. In such a manner—and by supposing this new order could be understood by the spirit and thus result in emotional significance—poetic invention would transcend the descriptive image.
The nine issues of nueva visión. revista de cultura visual. Artes, arquitectura, diseño industrial, tipografía [New Vision: Visual Culture Magazine–Arts, architecture, industrial design, typography] were published between December 1951 and 1957, and were intended as a place in which to redefine and disseminate concrete art. Tomás Maldonado was in the Editor’s chair and the Editorial Board consisted, at different times over the years, of Carlos Méndez Mosquera (1930), Juan M. Borthagaray, Francisco Bullrich, Jorge Goldemberg, Jorge Grisetti, Rafael E. J. Iglesia, Mauricio Kagel, Guido Kasper, Alfredo Hlito (1923-93), the architect Horacio Baliero, and Edgar Bayley (1919-90). A note in the first issue attributes the typographical composition to Alfredo Hlito. A note in the second and third issues states that: “NV, New Vision, the magazine, is the property of New Vision Publishers (currently being established)”. Though Tomás Maldonado was the Editor, the ninth issue listed him as the Founder. Edgar Bayley was the name adopted by Edgar Maldonado Bayley, an Argentinean poet born in 1919 and who died in 1990. He participated in the creation of Arturo magazine, was a founding member of the Asociación Arte Concreto — Invención [Concrete Art and Invention Association], and was also part of the Poesía Buenos Aires [Buenos Aires Poetry] group, having published numerous books of poetry, stories, and essays.This document was selected for its discussion of the guidelines of Invention-ism poetry that were envisioned by the artists of the Asociación Arte Concreto-Invención [Concrete Art and Invention Association].
