During this month, the ICAA celebrates the 85th birthday of Argentinean artist Luis Felipe Noé (b. Buenos Aires, May 26, 1933). Noé was part of a group of artists who first showed together in the exhibition Otra Figuración [Another Figuration] at Galería Peuser in Buenos Aires, 1961. The group included Ernesto Deira, Rómulo Macció and Jorge de la Vega.  They exhibited together until 1965, but Noé stood out among the group for his theoretical reflections on art in contemporary society —and for centering his insights in to artworks in the idea of “chaos as structure.” Notable among his publications are Antiestética [Anti-aesthetic] (Buenos Aires: Editorial Van Riel, 1965) and Una sociedad colonial avanzada [An Advanced Colonial Society] (Buenos Aires: Editorial La Flor, 1971) —both accessible at MFAH’s Hirsch Library. Luis Felipe Noé’s works Nuestro Señor de cada día (1964); Un vacío difícil de llenar (1964); Cuando calienta el sol aquí en la patria (1963); and Mambo (1962) are part of the MFAH Collection.
